10 Non-Toxic Beauty Brands to Discover in 2022

We’re all in search of that one skincare product or new makeup routine that will give us glass skin and that golden hour glow at any time of the day. I hate to break it to you: that single hero product does not exist (and neither does glass skin), but these innovative beauty brands are getting pretty close!

Whether you’re in the market for a face cleanser and serum or a new lip gloss to obsess over, we’ve rounded up the best beauty brands to discover in 2022. Oh yea, they all happen to be non-toxic too!

Skincare

Three Ships Beauty

Three Ships is on a mission to be the most transparent beauty brand in the world. It’s formulated with natural, plant-derived ingredients, and you never have to worry about filler ingredients or outrageous prices. Plus, you have to love that it was founded by two women hand-making products in a kitchen, and a portion of each sale goes to the Make A Wish foundation.

Standout products:

I couldn’t narrow it down, so I selected the 3 products that have been a staple in my nighttime routine. After cleansing, I can’t wait to spray on my Calm Lavender Hydrosol Toner. It’s alcohol-free, ultra-hydrating, and it really soothes the skin. Next, I use the Dream Bio-Retinol & Shorea Butter Night Cream. It contains gentle plant-based retinol to keep the skin youthful (millennials, it’s time to age gracefully!) and it locks in moisture without being greasy. Lastly, I apply the Buttercream Hydrating Lip Mask—it has been a must-have in the winter.

Evio Beauty

I was initially drawn to Evio Beauty for their “less is more” approach to beauty and the clean, vegan products, but I was really impressed by the ethos of the company. The brand was founded by Brandi Leifso while living in a women’s shelter, and today they donate one product to a shelter per product sold. I’m always here for a chance to support a brand that gives back.

Standout products:

Eyes, cheeks, lips; the Velvet Colour Stick can do it all. The formula is super creamy and highly pigmented for a flushed blush look. I also have to recommend my personal favorite, the Rejuvenating Mask & Moisturizer. You can put on a generous amount and let it work as a rinse-off mask, or apply a thin layer before bed as an overnight mask/moisturizer. (I prefer the latter.)

Besoma

This Cambodian-Woman founded brand is cruelty-free, toxin-free, and has everything that you need for a hydrating routine that’s gentle and promotes an even skin tone.

Standout products:

If you’re looking for an overall complexion boost, try the brand’s best seller, the Glow Goddess Original Serum. It has a reputation for reducing dark spots and age spots for a healthy glow. And if you’re like me and you could never have too many face mists, reach for the Superfood Cica Glow Mist to refresh dry skin. Use it to balance and refresh your skin any time of day.

Fleur & Bee

Fleur & Bee checks a lot of boxes. It’s formulated with natural ingredients, vegan, non-toxic, and wrapped in sustainable packaging. It also gives back through charity and is affordably priced. Oh, and of course, (what you really care about) the products are effective!

Standout products:

The recently released H2 Oh Yea Moisturizer is a champion for dry skin with plenty of good-for-you ingredients like hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and aloe vera, to name a few. If you want to try a new 3-step routine, reach for their Starter Set to cover the basics of your regimen.

Makeup

Beauty Bakerie

If you haven’t yet encountered the adorably-themed makeup brand Beauty Bakerie, then, you’re welcome. The black-owned, non-toxic brand was founded by Cashmere Nicole after battling breast cancer, and quality ingredients are at the forefront. From foundation shades to lippies and eye palettes, they have it all.

Standout products:

I typically love a red lip, but Cake Pop Lippies in Glam Jam gives me the same “wow” factor with a pleasant twist. The deep pink shade is bold without being too bright and the creamy formula doesn’t dry out your lips. Honorable mention to the Spray Your Grace Baking Spray for weightlessly keeping makeup in place.

Noyah

Did you know that the average woman eats 4 to 9 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime? We don’t really think about it, but thankfully, Noyah did. Many of their products are 100% made from food products. Clean ingredients. Earth-friendly packaging. We’re into it!

Standout product:

When it comes to lip balm, we often make the mistake of grabbing whatever we see hanging at the checkout aisle, but the Organic Vanilla Lip Balm will make you a believer in true lip care. Another favorite is their high-shine yet never sticky Lip Gloss. They have good color pay off, and I’m currently loving the Deeply in Mauve shade.

Mented Cosmetics

Mented Cosmetics was founded by Black women with melanin in mind. It began as a hunt to create the perfect nude lipstick (they absolutely have) and has expanded to a full cosmetics line creating hard-to-reach-shades for women of color. All lipsticks are vegan, non-toxic, and cruelty-free.

Standout products:

When I say these lipsticks are everything for women of color, I mean it. The Brand Nude Semi-Matte Lipstick is my go-to nude shade, and Dope Taupe is my favorite chocolatey brown. The brand is also praised for the Skin by Mented makeup sticks. Use it as a concealer, foundation, or contour for medium buildable coverage with a natural finish.

Bath & Body

Moon Bath

To me, nothing says “self-care” as much as a thoughtful and nourishing bath. Moon Bath helps you take your bathing ritual to the next level by blending ancient wisdom with modern intuitive alchemy and aromatherapy. You can also usher in relaxation knowing each blend is simple and organic.

Standout products:

The detoxifying effects of salt come together with the healing nutrients of coconut milk and honey in the Milk & Honey Sundance Sea Bathing Salt. As if that weren’t relaxing enough, enjoy your bath while you smooth and brighten your skin with the Cosmic Glow Botanical Face Mask.

54 Thrones

54 countries in Africa, 54 Thrones. Founded by Christina Tegbe (an as-seen on Shark Tank), this all-natural brand celebrates clean African beauty rituals with products that are entirely derived from African shea butter and botanical oils.

Standout products:

I was gifted the African Beauty Butter Mini Trio Set and I was so blown away that I promptly purchased a full-sized product. I often used whipped raw shea that I would purchase from African markets in Harlem, but the smooth texture and botanical blends of these body butters make them truly remarkable. Next on my radar is the Minona Glow Body Oil. This vitamin-rich oil makes for a luxury post-shower ritual when rubbed into moist skin.

Conscious Coconut

Conscious Coconut brings you the staple product of coconut oil that you know, but with 4x the antioxidants. The organic coconuts go from tree to cold-pressed oil in 48 hours to preserve all of the nutrients, ensuring that you get the most of this great multi-tasker. The brand also gives back by supporting the employment of disabled adults, and charitable donations to feed hungry children around the U.S

Standout Product:

It’s called Not Your Average Coconut Jar for a reason! Whether you’re deep conditioning, oil-pulling, or removing your makeup, it feels great to know each product is sustainably packaged and fair trade. Conscious Coconut has also simplified coconut oil by packaging it for on-the-go.
